Re: What is your order from the chinese
On the 'grass roots' trip round China I took in 2007, the best foods had were sweet and sour pork, which was very similar to the sweet and sour pork in the UK, and in Szechuan Province, a Szechuan Hot Pot (which was fiery as fuck, but delicious).

What was funny....all the way round our local guide was taking us to out of the way local restaurants service up local cuisine...nothing outlandish, but just decent local food...mostly vegetables and tofu based. We had 4 Australians in the group who were pushing 25 stone and were very critical of all the food.

When we got to Leshan, they found a 'western' restaurant selling 'burgers' and made a swift beeline for it, filling their faces on familiar food.

They then spent the next 36 hours being violently ill with food poisoning. They also spent most of the trip being gawked at like circus exhibits by Chinese who in 2007 were not all that familiar with Western tourists, and in particular super-sized human beings.

Enjoyed the trip...but as said, the hocking-a-loogie/spitting in the street was revolting and highly prevalent.

Panda Express is shit.

Your regular/local Chinese takeaway/restaurants are decent though.

What do you think of Chinese food in the USA?

Straight out of Uni with a Chemistry degree I did some work experience assigned to my local Emviromental Heath dept. Chinese restaurants came top of the dirtiest kitchens.

I don’t eat it very often in The UK Going for aromatic crispy duck and a King Prawn curry.
In Paris I eat it all the time. Much better their. I guess it’s more Vietnamese . Nems are great .

Usually it’s in front of you on the counter and you buy by weight. Cheaper a much better than the UK. Also their buffets are great value.

Cough, I’ve had the usual stuff of chickens feet, neck etc etc.
Had eel once and it was okay, I tried sea urchin and it was rank.

You go for dinner with the factory owner and get told it’s impolite to refuse their food orders, so you eat it to be polite and then their culture dictates that if your guests eat it you should get some more…….. it’s a vicious circle!

Best thing was the beer and playing dice.

Given the price of a cheap frozen chicken from Iceland compared with the expense and risk of setting up and maintaining a local dog/cat-napping gang, I'm calling bollocks on most of the 'half a dog in the fridge' type stories.

goose, did you try eating anything on those Junks?

I went there on my wife's business trip and a few of them tried the seafood on those junks and they pretty much all said it was fucking rank.

Me I don't eat seafood anywhere in the world so I can't give my personal view.

Yea, the local ''cuisine'' in Hong Kong is shocking. Knew a fella who use to go to China on business trips and would only ever go in McDonalds.

I once had KFC in a town called Putian, it was the skinniest chicken I’ve ever seen and it was grey.

I’ve not been in over 10 years so maybe things have changed.
The constant gobbing and snorting will put you right off your chickens feet though.

Ha! She tried that as well, but said it's hard to be veggie there.

First trip I tried a few exotic dishes but learned my lesson.
Second time around I claimed to be veggie.

My wife's done business trips to China and says the same. She avoids anything she can't identify and sticks to the most boring stuff available.

My experience of China is limited to a few hours in Kunming airport, which was notable, among other things, for signs advising that tossers are not allowed.

Went to HK & China about 12 years ago with work.
I’ll eat most things but that trip was a challenge.
Nothing like the stuff that gets served up over here.

Re: What is your order from the chinese
Most of our Chinese is Cantonese I think given our historical relationship with Hong Kong. In reality, China being as big as it is means that other parts have the completely different, truly disgusting stuff.

As for me when I go to Lams House I get, Chicken Chinese style, Prawn balls, and a couple of pancake rolls.

I live in Camberwell and possibly the best Chinese restaurant in London is on our high street. It's affordable too.

Silk Road - it's pretty damn fine and I've never been a huge fan of the shit in a tray stuff. It's Xinjiang cuisine from Central China so if you like kebabs and stews you'd probably like this stuff too.

MSG occurs naturally in many foods.

High levels are found in parmesan cheese, but it is also present in peas and tomatoes.

Isn't there supposed to be 5 fairly different regional cuisines in China?

Yet you get no clue of this in most Chinese restaurants

Re: What is your order from the chinese
Went in a chinese in Ireland a few years ago and most of the people at the next table were eating steak and chips. Reminded me of how chinese restaurants were here in the 80s. It was still too exotic for so many that they offered English dishes like steak and chips for people in your group too afraid to eat a chow mein.

Fella picks up his Chinese and has a feeling he's being watched as he drives home - he goes back to the restaurant and they look in the brown bag and there's a little pair of eyes looking back at them..."Aaaah -that would be your Peking duck ,sir"

Aalborg Hammer 3:32 Sat Feb 4
Re: What is your order from the chinese
